People really love to hate on the “latte effect” and how you’ll never get rich by investing the few dollars you save on your Starbucks habit each month. The simple truth, though, is that the math doesn’t lie. If one can cut out just $100/month in frivolous spending (and deposit it into a compounding account), that’s an extra $150,000 come retirement time (30 years @ 8%). Many (not all), don’t have to make enormous sacrifices, and can still maintain their standard of living, to net that $100, it just takes a little discipline.

It really shows you just how much we spend on these luxuries. Eating out, coffees, etc., it all adds up. Imagine if you just took the takeaway coffee spend each month and put it into a solid 8% return stock each year. It would be a really good return.
