I was just wondering when you cold outreach to people with your personal emails are they specifically for guest posts/broken link building opportunities etc or more to just introduce yourself, compliment their work and build rapport?

Yeah, perhaps not clear enough. We audited all of our articles to target a relevant keyword (including changing all of the slugs to include said keyword).

This inevitably creates redirects all over your site.

You can then use a link scanner (like Broken Link Checker or Screaming Frog) to identify all of your internal 301s. After that we just went through and replaced all the internal 301 links in our site with the new URL so we now have 0 internal 301s. Furthermore, SERPs will eventually update so reflect the newer URL (as opposed to indexing the old URL and passing it through a 301 to the new).

Can you clarify what you meant by removing the 301s?

Sure, I don’t have the exact numbers off hand but I’d guestimate that vast majority comes from DollarSprout (~85-90%). We use sub-ids to track income but there is a fair bit of crossover that is somewhat difficult to track (i.e. we funnel DollarSprout readers that are interested in a blogging specific side hustle over to BTOP where we have significant blogging related content).

With the sub-ids we could hypothetically get an exact dollar figure for each site but the funneling probably skews some extra income to the BTOP side that was the result of DollarSprout marketing efforts.

For what it’s worth, we do very little active promotion for Breaking The One Percent — I guess it our way of reflecting on our blogging lessons, regardless of which site it originated from.

Can you tell me how much of your income came from BTOP vs Dollar Sprout?
