What Is the Minimum Age for Liposuction?

2 min read

We recently have a potential patient email us about wanting liposuction. After discussing with her over email and by phone the specifics of liposuction, we eventually learned that she was only 15 years old.

In general, we recommend that you only consider liposuction if you are over 21 years of age. Liposuction can permanently remove fat in unwanted areas. However, if you are overweight and under the age of 21 you should be able to lose the weight with diet and exercise.

Usually, younger people can usually lose weight quickly and more easily than older patient. Younger patients tend to be in good health, have a higher metabolism, and can recover from working out faster than older patients. If you are under 21, you should have excellent skin tone, so any weight loss should not result in significant amounts of saggy skin.

Liposuction could be possible in any person, even a teenager or young adult. However, liposuction is really meant for an isolated problem area and is not meant for overall weight loss. Losing weight may be difficult, but assuming you have normal health, the average person under the age of 21 should be able to lose weight without the aid of liposuction.

To add, if you are under the age of 18 and would like to schedule a consultation with a Plastic Surgeon, they will not be able to see you with a parent or guardian present. There are forms that they must sign so there is no way you can see a Plastic Surgeon without your parents knowing.
