Extreme Fitness Reviews – Beachbody’s P90X Recovery Drink

2 min read

If you visit specialty and fitness nutrition stores, you might have been surprise by the increasing number of high octane post workout drinks popping up in retail shelves. Their packaging keeps getting sexier and the names more complex and high tech.

So when we stumbled upon the P90X Recovery Drink by Beachbody, we were taken aback. The packaging design was simple and elegant. The product claims made sense and were well explained. No mega macho super high tech BCAA’s or turbo charged mumbo jumbo to transform your body with just a simple serving. Just a clear explanation of what the product is and why it’s good for you.

Having previously reviewed Beachbody’s flagship P90X Extreme Home Fitness System (which we found to be a superlative workout and now a mainstay of modern fitness culture), we decided to put the P90X Peak Performance Recovery & Results formula (P90X Recovery Drink for short) to the test. We asked ourselves a very simple question: Is this recovery drink stand up to the reputation that was established by P90X, the workout? The answer is a resounding YES!

What are recovery drinks and why chose the P90X brand?

Unlike most after-work out snacks, recovery drinks are designed to maximize the benefits of your workouts by speeding up the recovery process that happens in the nick of time after your exercise routines.

While exercising, your body is burning calories and accessing glycogen stores for energy. Glycogen is made up by glucose molecules stored in muscles and created with the help of a hormone called insulin. As you exercise your blood sugar drops and your insulin levels reduced.

And as you workout, you muscle fibers undergo micro trauma. After your workout, your body begins to repair the tears in muscle tissue by synthesizing protein. The process of tearing down and repairing is what accounts for muscle growth.

That’s where a recovery drink comes to play. To be effective, the concoction has to replenish glycogen levels, stimulate insulin production, and provide a dose of protein to repair tissue damage. The P90X Recovery drink does just that. It contains vitamins, protein, and carbohydrates (both simple and complex) in a 4:1 carb to protein ratio. The best part about the P90X recovery Drink is that it has no aftertaste. Many people describe its taste to that of an orange creamsicle.

It is important to note that it has 220 calories per serving. But remember: a P90X workout routine burns on average 700 calories and artificial sweeteners will not help re-establish glycogen and insulin levels in your body. Do not be talked out of a good recovery drink because of high calories. Calories on a mission.
