Crowdfunding can be used to start businesses, raise money for charity or even fund life-saving surgery, but should there be rules as to what you can and cannot raise money for? 27-year-old Sam Barton doesn’t think so. After previously launching crowdfunding campaigns to finance a holiday and buy new trainers, Sam is now asking for public money to fund his liposuction surgery. The self-proclaimed ‘vainest man in Britain’ joins us today to tell us why crowdfunding is an acceptable way to fund a lavish lifestyle. Journalist Anna-May Mangan is outraged by this and also joins us to tell us why this is proof that crowdfunding is essentially a way of pickpocketing and online begging.
